Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s much awaited upcoming film, based on Milkha Singh, has been getting a lot of interest from possible candidates for the lead role. Back in May when Mehra had yet to cast any actors for the film, the director explained, “Any actor would kill for the part of Milkha Singh. This kind of a subject comes to an actor once during his lifetime.”
Later, Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan were being considered for the role of the Flying Singh. Milkha himself, however, was pulling for Akshay. “I strongly feel that my role should be played by Akshay Kumar. Being a Punjab da puttar, he has the right physique and also acts well.”
However, after the hit Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Farhan Akhtar is now in the running. He has proved himself a talented actor and his physique would be a good fit for the athlete. While the actor could not be reached for comments, if he took the role, it would be his first foray outside his own production house Excel Entertainment.

In 2012 the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles will celebrate its 10th Aniversary with an extra $10,000. The donation comes from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which annually grants money to film organizations, charities, and the Golden Globe Awards. Many Hollywood actors have received money from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for personal charities or film projects.
Film submissions have already begun for the festival to be held next April. Last yearʻs festival featured Disneyʼs Zokkomon. This year should bring many more emerging filmmakers, notable members of the Indian film industry, and talent from around the country.
The film festivalʼs location and mission lends itself well to cultural exchange of ideas. By encouraging interest in Indian films, the festival brings Indian film industries, not limited to Bollywood films, to the world stage. The Hollywood Foreign Press Associationʼs grant is not only a financial gesture, but one of cultural interaction and mutual interest in the film world.

Eros International plc (‘Eros’), the leading global company for Indian filmed entertainment, announces the signing of several of key, global distribution deals. Eros has finalized distribution tie-ups with broadcasters and distributors in Myanmar, Japan and Romania.
The 100-film deal that Eros International signed with Family TV, the leading TV channel of Myanmar, makes it the first company to launch Bollywood films in this market and allows the channel to showcase blockbuster movies from Eros. Some of these blockbusters include Dabangg, Kambakkht Ishq, Anjaana Anjaani along with classics like Zanjeer, Mother India, Sholay, Sharabi among others.
Eros has also partnered with Atrium Productions KFT, a Local Distributor in Japan for the theatrical release of ENDHIRAN – one of the biggest Rajnikanth blockbuster and highest grosser. With this, fans of Rajnikanth in Japan will be getting a chance to watch their favourite star on big screen. Eros also plans to launch the movie on TV and Home video platform in the near future.
Additionally, Eros has become the first Indian studio to launch a series of Bollywood films in the Romanian DVD market. The 30-movie package for this geographic market will have Romanian subtitles. Among the package are blockbusters such as: Housefull, Anjaana Anjaani, Dabbang, Yuvraaj, Love Aaj Kal, Veer, OSO, Namaste London, KI, Cheeni Kum, No Problem, Devdas, Lage Raho and Munna Bhai.
Speaking on the exploitation of new territories, Kumar Ahuja, Senior VP, Business Development, Eros International plc said: “We are continuing to expand our presence across the globe and access these new and exciting markets. Our ability to dub and subtitle Eros content into foreign languages, allows us to directly appeal to both local audiences as well as the local Indian community.”
