One of the first sounds we heard from the Rockstar soundtrack was the thumping beats and powerful vocals of ‘Sadda Haq’ and right from those first few notes we were intrigued. Then we saw the full song promo and it just amped up our excitement to see the film that stars Ranbir Kapoor. Talking about this song sung by Mohit Chauhan with special guest Orianthi on guitar, Ranbir said in a recent interview, “We had a situation in the film where there is a shift in the main protagonist’s character. He is very angry with the society. He believes we are who we are because of the way we are born and society has no right to tell us what is right and what is wrong. There is a lot of angst in the character at this point and this is the time when he starts growing as an artist. The greatness of music and poetry starts growing in him and he expresses his angst through this song ‘Saadda Haq Aithe Rakh’. The phrase is very catchy and means ‘What my right is put it in front of me’. Besides another highlight of the song is the brilliant guitar solo piece by the very talented Orianthi who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson.”

My Friend Pinto Movie Review
So we jump straight into My Friend Pinto and as far as the story goes, the main one [yes, there are more than one] is about Michael Pinto [Prateik Babbar], a Goan lad that has his world shaken up because his dear mother has passed away. So sad. But wait, there is a bright side. With no-one else to turn to, Pinto decides to go the big, bad city of Mumbai in search of his childhood friend Sameer urff(aka) Sam [Arjun Mathur]. Along the way, he saves the life of a Mallu Don [Makrand Deshpande], saves a dog that is given to said Don’s muse [Divya Dutta] but loses his wallet in the process, and basically becomes a magnet for trouble, all in one night. Throw in a few life lessons, a cute aspiring dancer/ladylove named Maggie [Kalki Koechlin] and a few songs and voila, you have a light hearted giggle-a-thon. Not exactly.
Sometime noble intentions are not enough to make an impact on the big screen. For My Friend Pinto, the story of simpleton coming to the big bad city maybe basic but it isn’t all it entails. Yet when it adds in a few [or many] subplots to make the proceeding a little interesting, the concoction that becomes the film just doesn’t work. Ok so maybe I’m jumping ahead a little and being a big harsh. After all, sometimes you need to look at the simple things in life to enjoy it. Maybe that is why Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to step away from his larger than life canvas films with deep, meaningful and heartfelt stories of human emotions. Maybe he wanted to do something a little different, lighter with some fresh upcoming talent like Prateik Babbar and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles. Noble intention, indeed, for the film is essentially about seeing the good in your fellow humans, friendship and making your own destiny. Alas, SLB’s My Friend Pinto isn’t working too well on that front either.
That’s not to say it is all bad. Yes, it does induce a smile or two here and there. But with the confusion of the plot, the multiple characters that are half baked and the situations which you can see happening, it does make it hard to remember them all after you’ve walked out of the film. On the acting front, Prateik is improving with each film and while you do get the feeling on occasion that he isn’t as innocent as Pinto, the attempt to be charming is sincere. Kalki doesn’t enough screen space to make this impact she needs and what’s more the character itself is sketchy. Makrand playing a Mallu Don may have been funny on paper but on screen, it doesn’t sit very well. Divya Dutta surely deserves better than this and Shruti Seth’s animosity towards Prateik isn’t explained very well, making her character a tad annoying. The rest are just so so.
With pretty much everything falling out of place, it’s not going to be easy to save this. Editors Shan Mohammed and Dipika Kalra try to snip it back together in a desirable way but unfortunately, fail. The cinematography has some unique shot added in to it and it is appreciated. Sadly, the writing plays spoilsport to such visuals. The music by Ajay-Atul too leaves much to be desired, although it seems to flow with the film ok. So what is left to watch in My Friend Pinto by debut director Raghav Dhar? Well, had there been a little more depth into Kalki’s character/relationship with her mother or maybe proper giggle worthy material for Makrand and crew to work with, a nice comfy couch-and-popcorn worthy film, maybe. But all that you are left with is the thought that the film was meant to be funny and charming but wasn’t.
My Friend Pinto has a long way to go before he can befriend the audience.

Aamir Khan’s New Look!
Actor Aamir Khan is known for always changing his look according to the character in his films. The last time we saw him at a public event, he was sporting a mustache look for Reema Kagti’s film Dhuan. Now the 46-year-old has been spotted at a public event in Mumbai and this time with what seems to be his new avatar for Dhoom 3, in which he will be playing the villian.
The Bollywood actor was posing for photos and proudly showing off his new look. This new suave look shows him in cropped haircut with a sophisticated salt and pepper French beard. Although the buzz is that this is his new look for Dhoom 3, no official confirmations has been made.
The third installment of Dhoom 3 will hit the theatres in 2012 around Christmas. Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will be seen in their roles as Jai Dixit and Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif has been cast opposite Aamir Khan.
Though we hear this new look is for test shots for Dhoom 3, Aamir is set to begin shooting for another schedule of Dhuan in London this month so in truth, it could be for that as well. We will have to wait and watch to see whose character he is playing with this cool look, but you can be sure whether it is Dhoom or Dhuan we will bring you all the exclusives.

Aazaan Movie Review
Prashant Chadha’s Aazaan is rumoured to be one of the most expensive movies til date to be churned out by Indian cinema. Tackling the never-touched-on subject of Bioterrorism, the movie’s hype was rife much before its release. With no well-known name as protagonist and a promise of a gripping tale to leave audiences thinking that this was the new era of Bollywood, Aazaan’s world premiere in Dubai only added to the excitement and hope that surrounded the film.
The story revolves around an officer from India’s RAW (an intelligence agency), Aazaan Khan (played by newcomer Sachiin Joshi), who – in order to build his reputation – is sent to various countries that have experienced terrorist attacks. He is portrayed as an expert somewhat to seek out the culprits and kill them. He sets out to clear his brothers name, who RAW believes was involved in the London Underground bombings. During his journey, he is also trying to stop the threat of a Bio-terrorist attack on the Indian sub-continent. He meets Afreen (Candice Boucher) who holds the
key to stopping the attack on India.
It has to be said that the attempt made by Aazaan to tick all the boxes of edge-of-your-seat cinema is commendable, but most definitely falls short in many places. A confusing (and at times incoherent) plot with too many characters that pop up at various intervals is enough to spoil the effort. Perhaps the initial foundation of characters and storyline could’ve been a little stronger in order to cement an audience’s understanding and emotional connection before the plot moved forward.
Those in the ensemble cast of Aazaan performed reasonably well, with special mention to the debutant Sachiin Joshi. His acting finesse and natural emotive ability comes through despite the weakness of the story. Ravi Kissen also stood out as a fellow RAW officer. Unfortunately, South-African model Candice Boucher didn’t create as much of an impact as hoped. It also seemed as if she was placed into the film unnecessarily and the movie perhaps could have done without a love story aspect. Arya Babbar doesn’t leave a mark either.
The soundtrack of Aazaan, by the talented music duo Salim-Suleiman, is on a whole new level. The twosome has given Bollywood some of its most popular songs in recent years and this album showcases their talent in a better if not similar light. ‘Afreen’ and ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ are extremely soulful and it the picturisation of the two on screen is pretty disappointing. It somehow feels as if such great music would have been better placed in a big banner film than a movie which endeavours to be a little ‘hatke’ than your average Bollywood flick.
Although the weakness in story let down Aazaan, it seems the editing could also have been much better. It is difficult to tell in many parts whether the character of Aazaan is the good guy or the villain. It could be seen that this blurriness in definition of his character, as the protagonist, is also a huge factor in determining the incoherence of the movie.
Aazaan‘s attempt falters in many categories but is worth a watch for the new style it tries to put across. It remains to be seen whether this kind of cinema is one which is brought to the forefront again or whether the shortfalls of Aazaan will be seen as lesson enough not to touch on such a subject again.

One of the most awaited movies of the year, Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2, is gaining steam. The first promo blew everyone away with its sleek and crisp look. Another promo will release with Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One, and we certainly can’t wait for it! Check out a quick synopsis of this upcoming film, and a few new stills.
In 2006 with the ever looming dangers of the underworld in Malaysia, Don broke the morale of his associates by infiltrating the gang with an alias and taking advantage of the enmity of Singhania & Vardhaan. He rose to become the undisputed king of the underworld with his shrewd mind and merciless tactics.
Don was being hunted by law enforcement agencies of 11 countries. The police in their pursuit of Don unknowingly hired the very man they were trying to hunt.
Don used this to his advantage and let everyone believe that he was the paancheewing simpleton Vijay. He let the police and his former associates battle each other while he espcaped much to the bewildement of everyone . Don walked away tall and victorious – the new, invincible king of the entire Asian underworld..leaving no traces of evidence of this whereabouts.
And now, six years later, Don is back with another masterplan that will destroy all his enemies and virtually bring Europe to its knees. Even though the former Kingpin Singhania is dead, he still has a part to play in Don’s destiny. He has left behind a safety deposit box in Switzerland… the contents of which hold the key to Don’s new master plan. But the enemies he made along the way are still after him.
Remember Roma, Don’s Junglee Billee? She fell in love with Don’s innocent portrayal of Vijay..only to shockingly discover that Vijay was actually Don. Now she has joined hands with Malik at Interpol and is part of their worldwide hunt for Don. When she does find him, will it be payback time for Don? Or are there some tender feelings still lingering underneath all the hatred that she feels for him? Malik’s life mission is to get Don arrested. Will he succeed or will he become another pawn in Don’s hands, like many have before him?
And of course, we cannot forget Vardhaan, who was masquerading as DCP Da Silva. The dual identity was all part of an elaborate subterfuge. Years ago, Singhania had doublecrossed him and Vardhaan managed to settle the score by assassination. But his plans handn’t taken into account Don’s scheming mind, which ensured that Vardhaan fell victim to his own trap. Now, he’s languising in a Malaysian prison, waiting, seeting… to get even with Don. But when Don comes calling with a hand held out in friendship, will he join forces with his arh enemy? And can he be trusted if he does?

Why I Chose Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan began 2011 in style with a quality performance in No One Killed Jessica but the hard working actress looks to end the year in style with the much awaited release of the Silk Smitha biopic The Dirty Picture. Although Vidya has been awarded for her performances in Parineeta, Paa and Ishqiya critics were baffled when Vidya was cast to play the sex siren but since the release of the trailer Vidya has once again shocked an audience in waiting. Now that the film is moving into the post production phase director Milan Luthria explains why he chose Vidya for the role.
“We were looking for a strong performer and not someone who could merely look sexy and Vidya is a great actor. Also, she has the body of a classic voluptuous Indian beauty, something not many Bollywood actresses can boast of. Silk was never pencil thin,” explains Luthria. According to the director much discussion had taken place before narrowing their choice down to Vidya but was confident that Vidya could bring the south Indian grace to the character as well the fiery persona attributed to Silk.
“It requires a great deal of effort to present a lady in a manner that looks sensuous but not vulgar. I am sure that people are standing up and noticing her and the film for that very reason. The fact that she can hold that innocent expression despite being a part of a bold scene is a facet of only great actors. The kind of character that she is playing, someone who has a harsh exterior but a soft inner isn’t easy, but Vidya does it effortlessly,” says Luthria.
A has taken a great deal of effort gone into her transformation with the use prosthetics to enhance Vidya’s weight gain which was required to portray the southern star successfully. On top of the physical work Vidya was also willing to take part in vigorous screen tests and workshops allowing her to get into the skin of her character better. This effort has not gone unnoticed as Milan explains how professional the actress has been throughout the process. “She made sure that she doesn’t take up or start other movies during the shooting of The Dirty Picture…Vidya is one actor who never complains. You will always find her in a good mood,” insists the director. The actresses hard work appear to get the better of her earlier this month when she was admitted to hospital after health complaints on the sets but all appears to be well as Vidya returned to complete the final shots.
The Dirty Picture has been labelled as a bold move from Ekta Kapoors production house but Milan insists that in December audiences will see that the film has as much entertainment as the shock factor. The music for the film is due to be released at the end of the month while the film is due to hit cinema screens in December.

Kya Super Kool Hai Hum Mahurat
The keenly awaited comic sequel Kya Super Kool Hai Hum directed by Sachin Yardi, who wrote the original 2005 film, is getting ready to go on the floor. The film has Tusshar and Riteish Deshmukh reprising their roles, but this time joining them are the lovely Neha Sharma & Sarah Jane-Dias. Also joining in the fun is Chunkey Pandey in the movie produced by Balaji Motion Pictures.
Riteish is excited to begin the film he tweeted recently “lookin fwd to kskhh shoot.” He also on October 6th tweeted, “Day-1-KYA SUPER KOOL HAI HUM- met beautiful Neha Sharma n Gorgeous Sarah – looking fwd to working with them. Good luck dir SACHIN YARDI.”
The film officially begins shooting in November and the cast and crew joined together for the Muhurat on Dussehra at The Renaissance Hotel, Powai. Unfortunately Tusshar was not able to be there since he was shooting for another film in Rajasthan.
