A traditional May day celebration held annually in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, featuring morris dancing, folk music and a Maypole. May day celebrations are an ancient practice. Until the 60s / 70s they were a common sight in England. Thankfully, there is a current resurgence, possibly from people with a renewed enthusiasm for English tradition and culture. If you haven't experienced a May celebration before, the Uttoxeter Mayfest would be a good place to start. This video captures the 2011 proceedings on Sunday, May 1st.
